It was announced by the production company Huayi Brothers on February 21 that Jet Li will star in its upcoming martial arts film with the working title, Tai Chi. Li will co-produce this film with Chen Kuo-Fu and will take the lead role of a legendary tai-chi master. Huayi Brothers has yet to announce a candidate who will direct the film.
Jet Li's portrayal of Zhang Sanfeng -- the father of Tai-Chi -- in Yuen Woo-Ping's 1993 film Tai Chi Master (太极张三丰) has been considered one of Li's most successful roles. However, Huayi Brothers claims that the new role will not be a repetition of Li's earlier performance as Zhang Sanfeng.
Jet Li himself is dedicated to promoting the martial art of tai-chi. Last August, when he was named image ambassador for the inaugural SportAccord Combat Games in Beijing, Li talked about his mission to have tai-chi included in the Olympics: "It's my dream to help Tai Chi push-hands become an official Olympic sport. I'll spare no efforts to make that happen in 20 years."
