Zhang Ziyi and Aaron Kwok in Life is a Miracle
Zhang Ziyi and Aaron Kwok star as an HIV-infected couple in director Gu Changwei's AIDS-themed film Life Is A Miracle. The film will open on May 10 in China.
Set in a Chinese village where HIV virus is spreading fast, due to illegal blood sales, the film revolves around Qinqin (Zhang Ziyi) and Deyi (Aaron Kwok), who are both Aids sufferers and eventually join together because of their shared misfortune.
Life Is a Miracle is the first feature film to address the country's growing AIDS problem. The movie also stars a few HIV-positive actors. The director hopes that the film can help raise awareness of the AIDS problem in China and diminish discrimination against HIV-infected individuals.
Director Gu Changwei also invited independent documentary filmmaker Zhao Liang onto the film set to complete a feature documentary Together on the AIDS situation in China. Look out for APA's upcoming interview with director Zhao Liang at the Berlin International Film Festival.
