The Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) 2010 will relocate outside of Korea for the first time. According to allkpop's web blog, Mnet decided to move the awards overseas in order to please several requests and accommodate their increasing popularity. The Mnet representatives have even ventured to say that their goal is to make MAMA and Asian music even more popular than the American Grammys. Allkpop also quoted Mnet CEO Park Kwang Won talking about his hopes that moving MAMA overseas will help raise the status of the Asian music market. "There must be an interchanging of Asian culture as a whole in order to develop the Asian wave," he explained.
The show will take place in Macau on December 28th with 4 hours of live broadcasting beginning at 6:00PM (KST). Nominations will be publicly available on October 28th. Unlike past shows, MAMA 2010 will be broadcast throughout 45 countries including Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Macau. Artists expected to make appearances at the awards include Rain, 2NE1, Big Bang, 2PM, 2AM and more.
