Director Xu Jinglei and her production team recently announced the December 23 release of their latest film Dear Enemy (Qing Mi Di Ren), starring Xu Jinglei, Stanley Huang, Christy Chung and Gigi Leung. Targeting the lucrative holiday market, Xu Jinglei believes her new film will exceed the box office record of her previous film, Go, Lala Go, which earned over 100 billion yuan (US $15.8 billion) at the box office and also co-starred Stanley Huang as her love interest.
Taking place in the world of investment banking, Dear Enemy is about a separated couple that goes head to head in a business acquisition. The film includes various shooting locations in Paris and London. Xu had worked on Dear Enemy's script for a year, enlisting in the help of a friend who has 10+ years working in investment banking.
Although she has the confidence to repeat her box office success, Dear Enemy is up against two powerful competitors, Zhang Yimou's The Flowers of War and Tsui Hark's The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate. However, at the film's press conference, Xu said that she believed that office romance plot-driven films will still continue to be popular after the success of Go, Lala Go.
