One Piece, the outrageously popular pirate manga series by Eiichiro Oda, will be continuing its successful streak by holding a "dome tour" in Tokyo and Osaka, making it the first manga series ever to do so. Events will be held from March 25 to 27 at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka, and from April 27 to May 1 at Tokyo Dome. Though only Tokyo and Osaka events have been scheduled so far, event organizers hope to tour throughout the nation before the year's end.
The events will be set up like theme parks with various areas of the parks corresponding to places in the series and will feature things such as life-sized figures of the characters, costume exhibits, and a 20-meter-long replica of protagonist Luffy and his ship, the Thousand Sunny. The events will also have live events, featuring voice actors from the anime adaptation of the series and musical performances by THE ROOTLESS, which does the anime's current theme song, as well as other live shows.
The pirate adventure series currently ranks at number one for the best-selling manga in history, weighing in at over 200 million copies printed. Though this is the first time the series will be holding a "dome tour," various other One Piece events have been held, such as the One Piece Carnival held in the Jinbōchō district in summer 2010.
