Wong Fu Productions announced on September 7 that the team would work closely with the internationally-renowned singer Wang Leehom to produce a music video for an upcoming new song. Wong Fu members Wesley Chan and Philip Wang published an update on September 16 from Taiwan confirming that shooting for the music video was completed the day before.
Though both Wong Fu Productions and Leehom have kept mum about the song title, there's speculation that this MV will be for one of two new songs (in addition to 28 hit tracks) on his fourth compilation album, Leehom New + Best Selections, which is currently set for release in Taiwan on September 30. The first song, "Open Fire," was previously released on September 14.
According to the Wong Fu Productions blog, Lee Hom and his manager emailed Wong Fu in June saying they had seen the team's YouTube videos.
"A few emails later and we were talking about doing an mv together," Wong Fu noted. "It's our first time working with such a big celebrity, and in a brand new environment, totally out of our element, but we're looking forward to the challenge."
Since it's founding in 2003, Wong Fu Productions has gained fame in the YouTube community. The three-man production team includes Ted Fu, Chan and Wang, who began filming videos together after working on a school production at UC San Diego. Awarded #55 for YouTube's "Most Subscribed (All Time)" and #18 "Most Subscribed (All Time) -- Directors," the trio continues to write, direct and edit short films, music videos, and vlogs.
Wang Leehom -- singer-songwriter, producer, actor and film director -- is from New York and is currently based in Taiwan. Lee Hom has released fourteen Mandarin albums, starred in multiple films and received the Best Newcomer Director Award at the 2011 Global Chinese Music Awards for his film Love in Disguise.
