Jin Akanishi, popular Japanese singer who recently made his US debut last year, is making further attempts to deepen his foothold in the American entertainment industry. Though Akanishi is a well-known celebrity in Japan for both his singing and acting, he still remains a fairly obscure figure in the United States. It was recently announced that Akanishi would be making his Hollywood debut in the film 47 Ronin, directed by Carl Rinsch and starring Keanu Reeves.
47 Ronin tells the story of a band of lordless samurai who seek revenge for the death of their lord. Akanishi will be taking on the role of the son of the group’s leader (Hiroyuki Sanada), a friend to Reeves’s character, Kai. Asano Tadanobu, Rinko Kikuchi, and Kou Shibasaki will also be starring alongside Reeves, Sanada and Akanishi.
Jin Akanishi made his way into the American music industry early last year, touring in February, and again in fall. Currently signed to Warner Music, his first U.S. album is set to be released in July.
47 Ronin is currently in production, set to hit theaters late next year.
