Going into the Mnet Music Awards, fans were asked to vote for their favorite music stars, and it was looking like first place for Best Male Artist would be G-Dragon with 42.9% of the votes, and Best Female Artist was leaning toward Ailee with 31.1%. As for the top K-pop groups in the running, Shinwa was in first for the title of Best Male Group with 34.4%, and Girl's Generation had pulled ahead for Best Female Group with 36.1% of the votes.
In the end, when winners were announced on November 22, Infinite pulled ahead of Shinwa for the Best Male Group title, and Lee Hyori won Best Female Artist over Ailee, but Girl's Generation held onto their Best Female Group title, with G-Dragon emerging as the biggest winner of the night -- taking home four awards: Artist of The Year, Best Male Performer, Video of The Year for "Coup d'Etat" and Best Dance Performer. G-Dragon also announced new music for the next year and a collaboration with none other than Justin Bieber.
International music artists such as Stevie Wonder, Icona Popa, and Ylvis performed onstage, alongside K-pop stars 2NE1, BIG BANG, Exo, and Crayon Pop.
