March 5 marked the concert opening of the “Faye Wong Tour 2011” at the Asia World Expo in Hong Kong. Wong had various outfit changes and hair/makeup designs (one of which represented a seabird), and because the theme of the concert was based on the four seasons, she had a new look for each season. As usual, she did not speak much during the show, but she rode on a float that lowered into the crowd, so she could have intimate interactions with her fans.
She had also prepared a new set list, which included some of her most well known Cantonese songs. While she started in the industry in the early 90s, recording Cantonese songs, the majority of her recordings after 1995 have been in her native Mandarin. Even though her Cantonese pronunciation was not as perfect as the last time she last performed onstage eight years ago, the crowd was extremely supportive and cheered her on with much applause. The two-hour show ended with the song “Heart Sutra.”
